Conquest Hospital

This 5-month contract for East Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust involved working alongside hospital staff to ensure minimum disruption. We constructed an extension to the existing training centre which involved re-routing fire exits, altering the layout and large scale external landscaping.
Penhurst Retreat Centre

This job involved demolition of an old garage, repairs to the existing 16th Century Jacobean building and the erection of a new single storey building comprising a chapel and two en-suite bedrooms. The project went on to win a Public and Community Award from Sussex Heritage Trust.
St Michaels Hospice

We were given this contract by St. Michael's Hospice, an independent charity that cares for those with life-limiting illnesses. We extended the current building by adding three separate extensions and also carried out extensive internal alterations. The contract took 8 months to complete and had to be handled delicately as residents were still in situ.

Sissinghurst Castle

We carry out routine maintenance work on all the cottages on the estate including internal and external decoration, as well as complete refurbishment and redecoration of the restaurant. By far the most involved contract was the redecoration of the cowls at the castle, which had to be carefully removed, cleaned and redecorated and replaced.

We erected a hexagonal extension to the south side of the school designed by John D. Clarke & Partners of Eastbourne.
The contract took seven months during which time the school remained open. The end product was a bright, contemporary room for use as an IT suite.

Leisure

George Stone Ltd has built up countless contacts over the years which allows us to source materials for the sympathetic restoration of older buildings. We can also extend modern buildings complete with electrical and mechanical installations.
Battle Museum

This run down listed building became a museum of the local area and its rich history. George Stone were awarded the contract to execute architect Anthony Sherwin's design which involved sourcing original materials to ensure a match to the existing building. Sympathetic internal renovation and some external landscaping turned the building into a Heritage Trust Award winning project for the company.
Caravan Club

The Caravan Club in Pett, just outside Hastings needed to be stripped out and refurbished, and a small extension including electrical and mechanical installations were added to the existing toilet block.

In line with current legislation, a disabled bathroom was also added, and extensive ground works were needed to form new hard standing for the caravans.
Sedlescombe Golf Club

Sedlescombe Golf Club was extended to nearly twice its original size and new changing facilities and conference rooms were added along with a balconied patio to the bar. We sourced materials which ensured the extension matched the original building.

Private Clients

From roofing renewal, house extensions, cottages and farmhouses to boarding schools, two-storey extensions, kitchen renovations and loft conversions, we have worked on them all, and we've even been featured on Channel 4's 'Grand Designs' program converting a disused water tower into a beautiful modern home.
Beestons Farm

In a project lasting 6 months, we converted the dairy parlour and cow barn at Beestons Farm, Vines Cross into luxury holiday cottages. The contract involved some demolition, extensive renovation and landscaping as well as laying new water and electricity supplies. Original mellow stone and oak beams were also used on the project.
Friars Halt

This airy double height studio with garage was designed by London Architects, Inglis Badrashi, and based on traditional local oast houses.

Reclaimed clay peg tiles and handmade dark Sussex bricks were used to add to the beauty of this building which featured in Building Design magazine.
Kepplestone

The exterior of two blocks of flats at this former boarding school in Eastbourne were redecorated and we carried out numerous window repairs as well as some rendering and repairs to the roof, all while the building was occupied.
Bexhill Cottage

We undertook extensive alterations to the upper floor of this property and created a luxury bathroom and two-storey side extension while repositioning some drainage pipes. We also found it necessary to underpin and rebuild some retaining walls.
Water Tower

The concrete tower, with walls more than a foot thick, was converted and extended to become a modern glass encased building for Channel 4's 'Grand Designs'. The resulting feeling of the outside coming in is quite dramatic and many people have commented that it is their favourite 'Grand Design' of all.
Sussex Cottage

This particular project required an extension to the main cottage using sourced oak and stone to compliment the original property.
The owner uses our services regularly, and as a thank you for another job well done the entire company was invited to a BBQ by the client.
Stable Block and Farmhouse

The alteration and renovation of this Sussex farmhouse to make modern living accommodation involved extensive carpentry and also included the conversion of an L-shaped listed barn to form office/living accommodation. In addition, we fitted a stable block with a new roof and undertook electrical and drainage installation as well as adding a garage, hard standing and landscaping.
The contract took around nine months and it's worth noting that approved alterations to a listed building are 0% VAT rated.
Norman House

This Grade 2 Listed Georgian house that lies within the Rye conservation area was restored and renovated in a project that required the removal of paint on external walls, reinstatement of brickwork, an extension to the second floor and demolition of the ground floor utility/WC area. Rebuilding, internal alterations, reforming of the parapet gutter and a change of coping stones were also carried out as well as the erection of a replacement garden shed.
The project took 1st place in the Sussex Heritage Awards, Small Scale Residential section.
Pool House & Changing Area

A pool house and changing area were erected around and over the existing pool which was protected during the works by joisting and boarding over.

The project was sympathetically finished in keeping with the beautiful Sussex oast main house.
Sussex Farmhouse

We added a two storey extension to this house with stunning new bay windows top and bottom. The materials for the build were sourced to match, and as you can see in the photos, the extension is barely noticeable. The final touches were an elevated balcony to the rear of the property and a beautiful internal brick fireplace in the new lounge.
Extension to a Listed Property

The aim of this house extension contract was to provide extra living space in keeping with the original property. The original oak doors and beams were removed and stored, ready to be re-fitted on completion and the sourcing of old Sussex bricks and stone was required. Reclaimed oak was also used to ensure the authentic look of the project.
Loft Conversion

Loft conversion is one of our specialities, and in this case we converted the entire loft space, and fitted a new staircase and two dormer windows.

The contract took just over three months and also included the renovation and re-fit of the existing kitchen.
Extension to Listed Winchelsea Property

These clients used the company previously to build an extension to their Winchelsea cottage and were so pleased with the results we were invited back when further works were required. This time the brief was to alter and refurbish the kitchen area including the removal of a wall and the installation of a new bespoke kitchen and rear stable door.
Loft Conversion & Roof Renewal

This project lasted six months and was overseen by Alan Hunting Associates. The entire roof of the property was removed and replaced, and the loft was converted into a bathroom, lounge and bedroom areas. A new internal staircase was fitted and the beauty of the original beams was preserved in the way the walls were constructed.
Markwick Terrace

These works at 1-2 Markwick Terrace, St Leonards-on-Sea were on a property which is part of a terrace of mid-19th century houses where the west flank wall was found to be in a poor state and required extensive repairs.

The flank wall was stabalised using an internal and external design scaffold and involved removing a band of brickwork 900mm deep and 327mm thick. The fire places on the 1st Floor were rebuilt and a supporting floor joist reinforced to support the upper parts of an internal brick wall. The cracks in the flank wall were then fixed and re-rendered with new arched mouldings to comply with Listed Building laws.

Hastings Borough Council awarded us the contract for the new flower pergola at Hastings Crematorium. The result is a beautiful structure comprising glulaminated timber posts and rafters with 3 privacy screens and a canopy covered with fire retardant fabric. The groundworks provided an area of textured paving and 2 disabled parking bays.
